The pouring rain today got me to thinking about paddles past and an image taken by my wife Jenni on a winter paddle last January. It put an end to any argument about winter kayaking being rougher than in the warmer months. Sure, ya have to bundle up a little bit more in the winter but as far as rough is concerned..not on that clear crisp Sunday morning.
We enjoyed this sheet glass ocean water off the northern tip of Salt Spring Island most of the day. Later, only a gentle breeze came up sending muted ripples on the surface. The sun was out and warm even for the time of year and the paddling, well, that is always good.
With reflections as clear as our heads in the chilly air…calm.
